‘Zomboat! is a 2019 British sitcom about the zombie apocalypse directed by Adam Miller and produced by Matthew Mulot, with Camilla Campbell and Robert Wulff-Cochrane executive producing for Noho Film & Television. The upcoming comedy will star Leah Brotherhead (“White Gold”), Hamza Jeetooa (“Doctor Who”), Ryan McKen (“White Dragon”), and Cara Theobold (“Downton Abbey”). It premiered in the UK on ITV2 on October 8, 2019, and it is anticipated to be available streaming on Hulu on October 25’, 2019.
‘Zomboat!’ will take place over six 30-minute-long installments. ITV released a lengthy synopsis for the new series which reads, “When the zombie apocalypse is unleashed in Birmingham, sisters Kat (played by Leah Brotherhood) and Jo (Cara Theobold), together with unlikely travel companions Sunny (Hamza Jeetooa) and Amar (Ryan McKen), must flee for their lives… by canal boat. Jo has just returned from a season as a club rep and has decided to move back in with younger sister Kat, a computer game addict who buys into every conspiracy theory around.
Jo struggles to take her sister seriously when Kat claims the zombie apocalypse is real and happening, right now…in Birmingham. Alongside gym bunny Amar, the upbeat and ready to face things head-on character and his oldest friend Sunny, a wannabe misanthrope who’d rather sit out the apocalypse from the comfort of his sofa, Kat, Jo, Sunny, and Amar find themselves trapped together onboard Dorothy, a narrowboat on the Grand Union canal. As they journey along the canal in their tightly packed living quarters, friendships develop, alliances form, arguments occur and romance blossoms. Along the way, they realize there is no escaping the problems of everyday life, even in a zombie apocalypse.”
Paul Mortimer head of digital channels and acquisitions said in an interview, “ITV2 is committed to comedy for younger audiences and we’re delighted to partner with Hulu and Noho Productions to add this fantastically high-concept, home-grown comedy-adventure series to our slate”. ITV and Hulu previously collaborated on the drama series Harlots and this time ITV Studios Global Entertainment is distributing the horror-comedy internationally.
Writer and director Adam Miller said: “Birmingham has 35 miles of canals, more than Venice, and it felt quite important to make Zomboat! somewhere else than London. It’s a show that moves and Birmingham is at the hub of Britain, so it gives us a lot of opportunities. I wanted to do a chase movie on a narrowboat because it’s funny. It turns out that everything is faster than a narrowboat except zombies.”
For its six-episode upcoming series, Hulu has released a trailer on October 21 along with a short note which seems a part of previously released description by ITV. It has some additional information, “The zombie apocalypse is coming to Hulu! ‘Zomboat!’ premieres October 25.” Check out the trailer above.
