Only a month after the release of the horrific show ‘Marianne’ Netflix reveals the images of its next French production Mortel which is a blend of crime, fantasy, suspense, and horror. After watching the trailer we can say it’s a dark teen-show full of special effects. This exciting series is created by Frédéric Garcia and produced by Mandarin Television that is set to air on November, 21 on Netflix.
Mortel translates into English as ‘deadly’ that may give you some idea of what to expect. The series focuses on three suburban high school students, Sofiane, Victor and Luisa, who find themselves confronted with a supernatural force, “Something bad that approaches, disobedient, deceitful”. The three protagonists, who apparently have nothing in common, will gather their voodoo powers recently acquired from a mysterious red-eyed character, nicknamed “Obe”, to find the missing brother of Sofiane. This pact with the “devil” will change the lives of the protagonists.
The trailer starts in a realistic universe but bascules little by little in the fantastic following the disappearance of the brother of Sofiane. Mortal also plays on the super-heroic register through the trio of shock, bearer of psychic powers. The first images set the tone: terror, supernatural but also romance are on the program.
The series is co-directed by Edouard Salier, awarded in 2015 at the Gerardmer festival for his short film Habana, and Simon Astier, accustomed to the superhero genre, writer of the fantasy comedy series Hero Corp. The actors Carl Malapa (Sofiane), Nemo Schiffman (Victo) and Manon Breshch (Luisa) and Corentin Fila (Jealous / When we are 17 years old), are headlining the cast.
