Final Space is an American animated space opera dramedy series created by Youtube star Olan Rogers. The first season was sneakily one of the best, most inventive new animated series of 2018 which revolves around an astronaut named Gary Goodspeed and his alien friend, Mooncake, and focuses on their intergalactic adventures as they try to solve the mystery of the titular Final Space. The series has been renewed for a second season and has finally premiered in the US on Adult Swim.
Back in May 2018, the show’s creator Olan Rogers confirmed that the second season will be ‘definitely 2019’ on Twitter. He also added, “As of now I have 6 seasons worth of ideas and I know how I would end it if and when it comes to that.” The American network TBS has announced that the second season has 13 episodes instead of 10 episodes; they are already premiered on Adult Swim on June 24, 2019.
The show features well-known voices such as Fred Armisen, Tom Kenny, David Tennant, Steven Yeun and Olan Rogers. Netflix managed to pick up the rights to Final Space during its first season which aired on TBS and came to Netflix weekly in some regions and later on in others. Season 2 was announced to be arriving on Netflix in the United Kingdom on November 24th, 2019.
The interesting script of the series is as follows: Gary Goodspeed is a boisterous yet inept astronaut who, in the midst of working off the last few days of his five-year sentence aboard the prison spacecraft Galaxy One, encounters a mysterious planet-destroying alien. Soon, he befriends the alien, whom he names Mooncake, and discovers that Mooncake is wanted by the forces of a powerful telekinetic creature known as the Lord Commander.
Together, with the ship’s computer H.U.E, an army of similar but unfalteringly loyal robots, and a growing crew of new shipmates, Gary and Mooncake embark on a quest to save the universe, all while trying to uncover the mystery of what ‘Final Space’ really is. The second season also introduces additional (crueler and sinister) characters and an even elaborate quest to find what Final Space is.
The trailer Rogers uploaded to his channel is different from the one uploaded on the Adult Swin YouTube channel. Despite that, both the trailers give us an insight into what the second season will entail- which is darker and more sinister than the previous one.
