Hunters is an upcoming American thriller series created by David Weil (Moonfall), and executive produced by Get Out director Jordan Peele which is being described as a “vengeance-driven Nazi hunting series,” set to arrive on Amazon Prime Video with a 10- episode inaugural season. The show follows a diverse band of Nazi hunters living in 1977 New York City who discovered hundreds of high-ranking Nazi officials are conspiring to create a Fourth Reich in the U.S. The eclectic team of titular hunters will set out on a bloody quest to bring the Nazis to justice and thwart their new genocidal plans.
In Hunters, Al Pacino plays the leader of a team hunting down Nazis living in secret in America in the 1970s. For Pacino – a big-screen legend whose awards accolades include one Oscar, five Golden Globes, two Primetime Emmys and even a BAFTA – this project represents a historic moment in his half-century-spanning career, marking his very first regular television role – well, not counting his roles on the 2003 HBO miniseries, Angels in America and TV movies such as Paterno and You Don’t Know Jack.
Logan Lerman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Fury) will play the show’s co-lead, Jonah Heidelbaum. The character will be thrust into the world of Nazi-hunting when his grandmother is killed by a mysterious intruder in their apartment. This tragedy will send Jonah on a quest for vengeance, requiring the Nazi-hunter training of Pacino’s character. In addition to Pacino and Lerman, the series features Kate Mulvany, James Le Gros, Ebony Obsidian, Caleb Emery, Henry Hunter Hall, Jeannie Berlin, Jerrika Hinton, Dylan Baker, Greg Austin, Lena Olin, and Saul Rubinek.
“When David Weil first shared [Hunters] with me, I immediately knew that we had to be involved. It’s cathartic,” Peele said in the project’s initial statement. “It’s a noir. It’s frighteningly relevant. It’s exactly what I want to see on television. I am thrilled to be working with Amazon in bringing this incredible vision to the world.”
Hunters, which is based on an original idea and will draw from real-life events, “is edge-of-your-seat entertainment that is not only culturally relevant but deliciously original,” said Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios. “David Weil, Jordan Peele, and the entire Monkeypaw and Sonar Entertainment teams represent the dream team! We can’t wait to get started!”
“Jordan Peele and Monkeypaw Productions have exhibited a unique ability to develop content that becomes part of the larger cultural conversation,” Tom Lesinski, CEO of Sonar Entertainment, said in a statement. “We’re also very excited that [Hunters] will be on Amazon, which we feel is the ideal platform for Jordan and David’s amazing story.”
