Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings: Netflix Review
‘Heartstrings’ is an anthology series produced by Magnolia Hill Productions and Sandollar Productions in association with Warner Bros. The eight-part series is based on Dolly Parton’s iconic songs each episode will exist separately from the others, with different characters and different stories. Parton will serve as the singer and songwriter for the series, and in previous statement, she said, “I am thrilled to be bringing some of my favorite songs to life with Netflix.” The show is all set to air on Netflix on November 22, 2019.
Four of the episodes (If I Had Wings, Jolene, Down From Dover and Two Doors Down) will be based on some of Parton’s classic hits, while the other half (These Old Bones, JJ Sneed, Cracker Jack, and Sugar Hill) will feature original songs and stories. “Songs, they’re just stories put to music,” Parton says in the trailer. “The songs that I’ve written, they’re stories of my life. Every triumph, every struggle, every smile, every sorrow. It’s the melody of my memories. It’s the sound of my heartstrings.”
Heartstrings will feature an all-star cast of actors including Kathleen Turner, Delta Burke, Gerald McRaney, Ginnifer Goodwin, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Timothy Busfield, Melissa Leo, and Julianne Hough, who will play the titular Jolene. Parton, who is no stranger to acting, will appear in three of the episodes in the series. She will star in “Jolene” where she will play the character, Babe.
Parton is also one of the show’s executive producers, where she serves alongside showrunners Patrick Sean Smith (Beverly Hill 90210) and Sam Haskell. Haskell previously worked on Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors in 2015 and Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love in 2016.
Netflix has published a trailer on November 5 along with a short description, “Eight Dolly songs. Eight Dolly stories. Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings is an anthology series that showcases the stories, memories, and inspirations behind her most beloved songs.”
Similarly, another trailer published by Netflix on November 14 with additional information about the show, “The music you love and the stories you’ve waited for. In a behind-the-scenes exclusive interview with the legendary Dolly Parton, witness her music come to life and discover what inspired some of her most beloved songs. Eight stories celebrating family, faith, love, and forgiveness come to life in this series inspired by Dolly Parton’s iconic country music catalog.” Check out the trailers above.
